The Freedom To Express Yourself Through Modern Dance Print E-mail
The art form of modern dance was developed in the early twentieth century. It was birthed from the need to express oneself further than the classical ballet form and other dance mediums. It used expressive and self thought movements that can be bent and formed to ones desire.

The form of expression was concocted in the United States and in Europe. The reaction did have rules, however, if you would like to call them that. It was based basically on the movements and principles of fall, recovery and contraction and release.

These principles formed into the teaching of modern dancing and one of the first schools opened in 1915. Subsequently, other schools emerged as the need to use dance in this different format became more popular. Throughout the style's short life it has been met with scrutiny and even revolt on the methods that are considered accepted forms. It seems ironic that a dance form that was birthed from wanting to be free had arguments of its premise.

Other perusers enjoy combining the form of modernized dancing in with ballet. This makes a different form all together but it is still considered modern dance. Judging the expressionism of another individual is a tight rope many walk, but the premise of the dance is expressionism of the human body to the events of what is happening. It is typically applied to musical form but it does not always have to be.

Those who participate in modernized dance, they are encouraged to use their own personal emotions in the dance. It is also known as a form of acting to movement. Many acting schools also teach a class in modern dance to help their performance level.

To organize such a vast array of movements one of the founders of modern dance, Martha Graham, developed a language of movements to aid in the teaching of the style of dance. It is now used in most schools across the country. It however does not limit the creation of steps by the individual. It is highly known that a new dancer will often contribute to the creation of steps that they form.

Modern dancing has evolved into many formats. The medium has birthed the expression of rock and roll, hip hop and any other kind of dance that you can think of. Deeply rooted in ballet it also has the expression of other dance forms and is here to stay as a means of expression for anyone who chooses to partake.
